A Women’s Perspective on Peace in Donbas

On the International Day of Women for Peace and Disarmament, women’s organizations from both sides of the contact line held a symbolic meeting at the border. They highlighted critical issues such as checkpoint closures, unequal rights, and lack of access to services. Their demands include restoring safe movement, legal equality, and nonviolent conflict resolution.

    Increasing the number of crossing points to/from territories not controlled by the Ukrainian government, with the establishment of safe waiting areas and access to humanitarian services:toilets with changing tables, hand washing facilities, drinking water, heating points, shelter in case of shelling. Organization of emergency medical aid points at all checkpoints at public expense.

    Restoration of two-way direct rail and bus service between the controlled and temporarily uncontrolled territories of Ukraine.
  • 3.
    Ceasefire by both sides to ensure the safety of civilians.Transition to a peaceful resolution of the conflict through negotiations.
  • 4.
    Inclusion of a sufficient number of representatives of public (women's, peacekeeping, human rights) organizations in the negotiation process at all levels:international, state, local. In particular, this includes participation in the Minsk or other peacekeeping process, in discussions on the formation of state and local budgets, etc.
  • 5.
    A guarantee of security for all participants and members of dialogue processes on both sides of the conflict.
